Robotics startup Physical Intelligence raised a $400 million Series A at a reported $2.4 billion valuation, with investors including Jeff Bezos, the OpenAI Startup Fund, Thrive Capital, Lux Capital and Bond Capital.

The company builds “vision-language-action” foundation models — systems that take in camera feeds and natural-language instructions and output the low-level commands that drive a robot’s joints and actuators, aiming at a general-purpose control policy rather than a model trained for one robot or one task. The round came roughly eight months after the company’s $70 million seed and days after it released π0, a generalist robot policy, giving investors a concrete demonstration to point to alongside the round.

The size and speed of the raise — a company with no public product going from seed to a multi-billion-dollar valuation within a year — was characteristic of the robotics-foundation-model funding surge in late 2024, as investors who had already bid up language-model valuations looked for the next category expected to benefit from the same scaling approach applied to physical action.
