Anthropic expands free and discounted Claude access for scientists
Premium seats cost $15 a month for five times the standard usage limit, and the separate credits programme now reaches fields beyond biology such as mathematics research.

Anthropic said it would offer 10,000 free standard seats to scientists, plus a premium tier priced at $15 a month giving five times the usage of a standard seat, and that it intends to extend the offer well beyond that initial 10,000 as capacity allows. The company did not commit to a timeline for further expansion.
The announcement also widened Anthropic’s separate AI for Science credits programme, previously focused on biology, to other compute-heavy fields — citing mathematics research, including work on the Riemann zeta function, as one example of what it expects to fund.
The expansion extended a broader pattern of Anthropic subsidising access for scientific and public-interest users, and followed its report, nine days earlier, that Claude had helped design experimentally validated protein binders — part of a wider case the company has been making that scientific acceleration is among the clearest justifications for frontier AI investment.
