OpenAI brings GPT-6 to all ChatGPT users, with answers built as interactive interfaces

Free users get GPT-6 Luna and paid tiers GPT-6 Sol; 'Intelligent UI' builds answers from charts, maps, forms and small working tools, and replies begin while the model thinks.

OpenAI made GPT-6 the default chat model for every ChatGPT tier, a month after releasing the first GPT-6 models to paying customers. Paid users get GPT-6 Sol and Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna, both tuned for everyday conversation. The paid rollout began on 7 October and the free tiers the next day. OpenAI said ChatGPT had more than 1.2 billion weekly users. The models behind its Work and Codex products did not change.

The main new feature is what OpenAI calls Intelligent UI. Instead of replying in text alone, the model can compose an answer from text, graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and interactive elements: a cooking timeline beside a recipe, a road trip on a map, an interactive diagram that responds when an input is changed. Asked to, it can build a small single-purpose tool, such as a savings calculator or a bill splitter, inside the conversation. OpenAI said it had built a library of streamable interface components and a compiler that renders them as the model generates. It trained the model to choose a layout, and to decide when plain text is better. It said the model’s design judgment still had room to improve.

The release also lets ChatGPT start answering while it is still reasoning, building the reply in parts. OpenAI said GPT-6 Instant began answering questions that need web search 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. On safety, it cited stronger resistance in adversarial testing to multi-turn attempts to bypass its safety training, drawing on techniques from Astra. It published a separate system card.

For most users this was the first contact with the GPT-6 generation. OpenAI presented the interface work as a step towards software that, in its words, adapts “to people” instead of people adapting to software.
