1X Technologies
Humanoid robots for the home; its consumer robot NEO opened for pre-order in 2025.
1X Technologies is a Norwegian-American robotics company building humanoid robots for the home, best known for its bipedal robot NEO. Founded in 2014 as Halodi Robotics by Bernt Børnich, it rebranded to 1X and refocused on consumer humanoids, and is backed by investors including the OpenAI Startup Fund. In late 2025 it opened NEO for pre-order at $20,000 or a monthly subscription and said its first year of production sold out within days — although the robot's early demonstrations have drawn scrutiny over how much of its household work is autonomous rather than remotely teleoperated by a human, a distinction the company acknowledges it is still closing.
