Arcee AI is a US startup that builds small language models and tools for enterprises to train, merge and deploy their own, on the argument that compact, domain-specific models are often cheaper and easier to control than the largest frontier systems. Founded in 2023, it helped popularise "model merging" — combining several fine-tuned models into one without increasing its size — and released the open-source MergeKit library that made the technique widely used. It raised a $24m Series A led by Emergence Capital in 2024, roughly six months after a $5.5m seed round.
