A Georgetown research centre providing non-partisan analysis of AI and national security — talent pipelines, semiconductors, China's AI ecosystem and compute.
The Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) is a research organisation at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service, established in January 2019 with a $55m grant from Open Philanthropy to provide non-partisan analysis of the security implications of emerging technology, artificial intelligence foremost among them. Its founding director was Jason Matheny, later chief executive of RAND; it is now led by executive director Dewey Murdick. CSET is known for data-driven work on the AI talent pipeline, semiconductor supply chains, China's AI ecosystem and the compute underpinning frontier models, and its analysts and reports are frequently cited in US policy debates and congressional testimony.
