Daniel De Freitas is a co-founder of Character.AI, the conversational-agent startup he launched in 2021 with Noam Shazeer. At Google he had led work on the dialogue system that became LaMDA; in August 2024 he returned to Google as a research scientist at DeepMind as part of a licensing agreement with Character.AI.
