ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, is Switzerland's leading science and technology university, founded in 1855, and one of Europe's most prominent centres of research in computing and artificial intelligence. In 2020 it established the ETH AI Center, a cross-departmental hub directed by the machine-learning researcher Andreas Krause, to coordinate AI work spanning machine learning, robotics, health and the sciences. Often grouped with its sister institution EPFL, ETH is regularly cited as continental Europe's strongest academic base for AI, both for its research output and as a source of researchers and start-ups.
