Suno, the AI music-generation startup that had released its Suno v3 model two months earlier, raised $125 million in a Series B round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from angel investors Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross alongside Matrix and Founder Collective. Suno’s own announcement did not disclose a valuation; reporting on the round put it at roughly $500 million.

In its funding announcement, Suno said 10 million people had made music on the platform in the eight months since its public launch, and that the new capital would go toward product development and hiring. Chief executive Mikey Shulman framed the company’s pitch around augmenting rather than replacing human creativity, writing that the technology was meant to amplify “our most precious resource.”

The round came before the major record labels — Universal, Sony and Warner — sued Suno and its rival Udio the following month over the use of copyrighted recordings in training, a dispute that would shape the company’s legal and financial position for years afterward and that this raise, closed without addressing the issue publicly, did nothing to pre-empt.
