Meta launches an enterprise AI business led by MongoDB's former chief executive

Meta launched Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business unit packaging its consumer AI agent Muse together with a new Meta Business Agent, a Muse API and Muse Code, for sale to corporate customers. Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg wrote that the unit is “the next major pillar of our business,” combining “advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of working closely with many businesses” to help other companies use AI to “grow and transform.”

To run it, Meta hired Chirantan “CJ” Desai — until then chief executive and president of the database company MongoDB — as chief enterprise platform officer, reporting directly to Zuckerberg. Desai had previously led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as president and chief operating officer. TechCrunch reported that MongoDB’s shares fell more than 17% on news of his departure, with his predecessor, Dev Ittycheria, returning as interim chief executive while the company searches for a permanent replacement.

Meta disclosed no pricing or revenue figures for the new business. The move puts Meta in more direct competition with the enterprise agent offerings of Salesforce, Microsoft and Google; TechCrunch described it as an attempt to find “a return on all the money [Meta is] pouring into AI.”
