Person
Mark Zuckerberg
Mark Zuckerberg is the co-founder and chief executive of Meta, the company he built from Facebook and renamed in 2021 around his bet on the metaverse. Since 2023 he has pushed Meta heavily into AI, releasing the open-weight Llama models as a deliberate contrast to closed rivals, though those models later drew criticism for falling behind on benchmarks. In 2025 he restructured the effort as Meta Superintelligence Labs, paying $14.3 billion for a stake in Scale AI to bring in Alexandr Wang as chief AI officer and offering large packages to poach researchers. The strategy has been costly and, by 2026, was drawing scrutiny over spending and delayed model launches.
