Apple announced, in a Chinese-language release on its China newsroom dated 31 October, that its first set of Apple Intelligence features will reach iPhone users in mainland China. Testing opens on 4 November with the latest iOS developer beta, and the features are to launch for Chinese users with the official release of iOS 27.3 in December. The release adds that support for other platforms will follow “after necessary approvals”, without saying which approvals or which platforms.

The announcement turns into a schedule what Apple executive chairman Tim Cook had said two weeks earlier: that China had approved the features and a test version would come that month. Apple’s own dates are a beta from 4 November rather than late October, and a general release in December.

Apple said the generative models behind the features are its own, and that it has partnered with Alibaba to bring Qwen into some of the experiences. Qwen will be available in Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence, for broader-knowledge questions, for questions about photos and documents including PDFs and presentations, and for the “Compose” function in Writing Tools. Users reach it by signing in with a Qwen account or with Sign in with Apple. No other model partner is named in the release, and it does not say how requests are split between Apple’s models and Alibaba’s beyond the Qwen features listed. Earlier secondary reports had described the division of labour differently, and Apple’s page does not address them.

The feature list is the familiar Apple Intelligence set: Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime and Phone, rewrite and proofread tools, notification and email summaries, Clean Up and Genmoji in photos, and call-transcript summaries. Apple said Siri AI and other next-generation features announced at WWDC 2026 are not part of this update. Eligibility requires an iPhone 16 or later or an iPhone 15 Pro model, with Siri and the device language set to English or Simplified Chinese; Live Translation through AirPods needs supported AirPods and firmware. The release has no privacy section beyond a link to Apple’s general policy.

This is Apple’s own confirmation of the Alibaba arrangement and of the timetable; how the Qwen integration performs will only be visible once users can test it.
