Black Forest Labs
Maker of the open-weights FLUX family of image-generation models, founded by researchers from the original Stable Diffusion team.
Black Forest Labs is a German company, founded in 2024 in Freiburg by researchers who had worked on Stable Diffusion — among them Robin Rombach, Andreas Blattmann and Patrick Esser. It builds the FLUX family of image-generation models, released with openly downloadable weights alongside a hosted API and positioned as a successor to the open Stable Diffusion line the founders helped create. Its models have been adopted as the image generator behind several larger consumer products. The company reported raising a $300m round in December 2025 that investors valued at around $3.25bn, with backers including Andreessen Horowitz and Nvidia.
