Mila
Montreal deep-learning institute founded by Yoshua Bengio, one of the largest academic concentrations of AI researchers.
Mila — the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute — is a Montreal research institute that grew out of the deep-learning lab Yoshua Bengio began building in the early 1990s and was formalised in 2017 as a partnership between the Université de Montréal, McGill and other local institutions. Bengio, who shared the 2018 Turing Award for foundational work on deep learning, remains its scientific director, with Valérie Pisano as president and chief executive. The institute says it hosts one of the largest academic concentrations of deep-learning researchers in the world, and its work spans machine learning, its applications, and increasingly questions of AI safety and governance.
