MiniMax
Open-weight foundation models and the Hailuo platform for video and audio generation.
MiniMax is a Shanghai-based Chinese AI company known both for consumer products — its Hailuo platform for video and audio generation — and for a line of open-weight foundation models. Its MiniMax-M1, released in mid-2025, was presented as the first large-scale open-weight model to combine a hybrid-attention design with reasoning training, and it supported very long context windows aimed at cheaper long-form inference. It sits within a broader wave of Chinese labs publishing downloadable models, though its releases have used the company's own licence rather than a standard permissive one. By 2026 it was shipping further open models and video systems, and was among the labs Anthropic accused of large-scale distillation of Claude — the largest by volume, according to Anthropic's account, a claim MiniMax did not publicly answer.

MiniMax unveils Hailuo 3.0 (H3) video model with native 2K and synced audio
The model generates synchronised dialogue, sound effects and ambient audio alongside native 2K video in a single pass, and accepts up to nine reference images for consistency.

MiniMax releases MiniMax-M3, combining frontier coding, 1M context and native multimodality
The 428-billion-parameter model (23bn active) reached a 1M-token context window and, MiniMax said, outscored GPT-5.5 and Gemini 3.1 Pro on SWE-Bench Pro at a fraction of the price.

Anthropic accuses DeepSeek, Moonshot and MiniMax of industrial-scale distillation attacks
MiniMax accounted for over 13 million of the exchanges, Moonshot 3.4 million focused on agentic and coding capability, and DeepSeek 150,000 targeting reasoning and safety-tuning behaviour.

Zhipu (Z.ai) releases GLM-5, trained entirely on Huawei Ascend chips
Released under the MIT licence, the 744-billion-parameter model scored 77.8% on SWE-bench Verified, days ahead of new Alibaba and ByteDance model launches.

MiniMax releases M2.1 update
MiniMax said the open-weight update outperforms Claude Sonnet 4.5 on multilingual coding, approaching Claude Opus 4.5, and cut token consumption and latency.

MiniMax releases Hailuo 2.3 video model
MiniMax kept pricing level with the prior Hailuo 02 model while improving character movement, facial micro-expressions and stylised rendering.

MiniMax open-sources MiniMax-M2 for coding and agentic workflows
MiniMax priced API access at roughly 8% of Claude Sonnet 4.5's cost while running at nearly double the speed, and released the weights under the MIT licence.

MiniMax releases MiniMax-M1, world's first open-weight large-scale hybrid-attention reasoning model
456B-parameter model (45.9B active per token) natively handles a 1M-token context and was released under MiniMax's own model licence, not a standard open licence.
