Chinese electronics giant whose Ascend accelerators are the main domestically made alternative to Nvidia GPUs for AI developers inside China under US export controls.
Huawei is a Chinese telecommunications and electronics company, founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, whose Ascend line of accelerators has become the leading domestically made alternative to Nvidia chips inside China. After US export controls tightened around Nvidia's China-specific parts, Huawei's Ascend 910B and 910C were reported to be widely adopted by Chinese AI developers, and the company began mass shipments of the 910C during 2025. Independent assessments have put its chips some way behind Nvidia's leading parts, so Chinese users are reported to compensate by running larger clusters; US restrictions and Huawei's reliance on constrained manufacturing remain central to its position.
