Reflection AI is a US lab founded in 2024 by the former Google DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, who had worked on reinforcement learning and on the AlphaGo line of systems. It began with a focus on autonomous coding agents but repositioned in 2025 as an open-weight alternative to the closed frontier labs, pitching itself as a Western counterpart to China's DeepSeek. On that plan it raised $2bn at an $8bn valuation in October 2025 in a round led by Nvidia — one of the largest early-stage rounds on record — and was reported in early 2026 to be seeking further investment at a valuation above $20bn, though it had yet to ship a frontier model.
