Physical Intelligence, a San Francisco startup building foundation models for robot control, closed a $600 million Series B led by Alphabet’s growth fund CapitalG, with Lux Capital, Bond, Redpoint and Sequoia Capital also participating. The round valued the company at roughly $5.6 billion post-money, up from $2.4 billion a year earlier, and brought its total primary funding to around $1.1 billion.
The company’s product is a vision-language-action model that takes in camera input and outputs robot commands, intended to work as a generalist controller across different robot bodies rather than being trained separately for each one; earlier demonstrations included tasks such as folding laundry and assembling boxes. Physical Intelligence said the new capital would go toward collecting more training data, building partnerships and expanding its team, rather than toward manufacturing hardware of its own.
The raise placed Physical Intelligence among the best-funded robotics-foundation-model startups, alongside competitors such as Figure AI, at a moment when venture investors were treating general-purpose robot control as a distinct category from both humanoid hardware and general-purpose language models.
